Tributes have been paid to councillor Jim Spibey, of Somercotes, who died peacefully on Monday, December 26, aged 80.
A spokesman for the parish council said: “Jim was a parish councillor for Somercotes for 25 years and was always pro-active in promoting the wellbeing of the community.
“He was a staunch member of the Labour Party and raised funds by selling bedding plants as he was a keen and knowledgeable gardener who had a wonderfully kept garden.”
He was the beloved husband of the late Hilda, the much-loved father to Elaine and David, father-in-law to Sue and Steve and grandfather to Leanne, he added.
