A new community café officially opened its doors this week. Based in Somercotes medical centre the café is open to everyone and offers a hot drink, biscuit and company.

The project was given the backing of Cllr Paul Smith and subsequently awarded £9,420 from Derbyshire County Council Community Priorities Program, along with fundraising from the patient participation group. The waiting area was adapted and a purpose built kitchen installed. Spearheaded by members of the medical centre patient participation group, the café is run by volunteers and opens on both a Wednesday and Thursday morning 10:00am until 1pm.
