Dear Resident
With the summer it has been fairly quiet in terms of Derbyshire County Council, apart from the conservative controlling group deleting the posts of Chief Executive, Assistant Chief Executive and the Strategic Director for Corporate Property and creating a post of Commissioning Officer. Time will tell us what this means to the County Council and the residents of Derbyshire.
Locally I have been busy reporting pot holes, overgrown hedges, street lighting problems and getting improvements to pavements and roads on Bank Street. Patching works have been carried out, pot holes filled on various Roads and junctions around the area.
Grants have been issued to Somercotes Medical Centre for the patient participation group to develop a kitchen so they could open a small community café
A grant for Birchwood Methodist Church Hall’s kitchen so that they can continue to provide hot food and beverages in a modern facility.
Various small grants to community groups throughout the electoral area so they can continue with the good work they do.
A number of traffic regulation orders are soon to go out to consultation mainly around junctions in Somercotes that are causing driving visibility issues and are seen as dangerous, these have been raised with me by many residents and the police as areas of concern. Examples of the proposed junctions being consulted on are Charles Street with Greenhill Lane, Chapel Street with Cemetery Road, Birchwood Lane with Queen Street and junctions around Brenden Avenue, Bank Street and Quarry Road. Look out for the notices letters and the newspapers for details of the proposals.
