In June 2013 the Parish Council took over the running of Somercotes Car Parks and the areas of the recycling bins and the parking area to the rear of the former toilet block, on Market Place, need maintenance work which has now been completed, together with the Village Hall car park.
The works on the Market Place has created 3 new disability car parking bays (near the Co-op store) and 10 additional parking bays. The project cost £13.5k. The council is proposing to make improvements to the former toilet block footprint once ownership is transferred from AVBC so there is a community area.
