Pennytown Ponds News
by Parish Council on Saturday 6 February 2010
An Open Day was held on Sunday, 29th November to officially open the new fishing pegs and walkways. The bridge has been repaired and is working well. About 60 people turned up despite the inclement weather. A litter pick took place and people were shown how to make bird and bat boxes, etc. A walk was undertaken by Mick Armstrong and Christmas wreaths using locally gathered material were made by children. The new facilities were opened by
Mr Tim Brookes who worked with the Pennytown Ponds Group to raise funding for the project. The site is already benefitting with increased visitors and fishing club members. Thanks to everyone involved in making the area a wonderful place to visit. by Parish Council on Saturday 6 February 2010
The next project the Group is looking at is a tree and shrubs planting scheme to provide further habitat for wildlife. Dates are still to be arranged, so if you would like to get involved with greening up Pennytown Ponds look out for the dates for this event in the Parish Hall and on the notice boards in Somercotes, Leabrooks and Pye Bridge.
