1st Somercotes Guide Heather Beal was presented with her Baden Powell Challenge award by Councillor Paul Smith and veteran Guider Barbara Osbourne at the Somercotes Parish Council Carol Service held at St. Thomas’ Church on Friday, 9th December, 2011. The award is the highest a Girl Guide can gain in the Guide section. Heather completed challenges relating to global awareness, celebrating diversity, healthy lifestyles, relationships, skills and discovery. She then attended an adventure weekend, together with Guides from around the county, where they made new friends, tried new activities and celebrated their achievement.

Gaining the award is personally challenging and involves a sustained effort over a period of time. Heather has been joined in achieving the award by Emily Priest and Morgan Metheringham. Well done to you all!
